Mammograms and breast ultrasound are being used more frequently to detect abnormalities. The physicians of Surgical Specialists are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases. We provide ultrasound exams, needle biopsies and surgeries of various types. We direct and coordinate the care of all severely injured patients in the initial stage of resuscitation, and often throughout the hospitalization.

These types of surgery work by restricting the amount of food a patient’s stomach can hold. A fully trained surgeon is a physician who, following medical school, has undergone years of training in an accredited residency program to learn the specialized skills of a surgeon. An accurate indicator of a surgeon’s competence is certification by the American Board of Surgery. All board certified surgeons have completed an approved residency training program and have passed several rigorous examinations. At Surgical Specialists of Charlotte, all surgeons in our group undergo re-certification testing every 10 years in accordance with Board requirements.
Offices
For certain conditions, our surgeons offer robotic surgery as a treatment option. This advanced, minimally invasive surgery utilizes a computer-controlled robot to assist in performing a surgical procedure. This allows surgeons to operate in small spaces in the body that would normally require traditional open surgery.
The Surgical Specialists of Charlotte Vascular Laboratory is one of the region’s premier IAC Accredited Vascular Laboratories. We provide non-invasive evaluation of vascular disease (both venous and arterial) using ultrasound and segmental arterial pressure recordings. Both of these modalities are patient friendly and do not require use of needles, dye or x-ray. Skin cancers such as melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma are common problems, particularly in older people. Melanoma is a more serious skin cancer which can be fatal if not removed in the early stages. Moles which have very dark pigmentation, are growing, bleeding or changing should be examined and excised.

Our surgeons are all board certified and perform a variety of general surgery procedures. They also offer subspecialized care in specific areas, including breast cancer surgery, varicose vein treatment, laparoscopic surgery and skin cancer surgery. This is the practice of treating diseases of the circulatory system – arteries and veins. Types of procedures typically performed are bypass surgery for blocked arteries, repair of aneurysms (dilated arteries), removal or chemical treatment of varicose veins, and others.
